Personal computer (PC) (From this point
onward, I will refer to personal computer as PC.) SVGA monitor Network requirements Most
veterinary practices have small networks e.g. two to four PCs. Microvet is fully
network compatible. Most of our small networks use Windows 95/98/ME as network operating
system. We recommend using Windows NT/2000 when there are more than six PC's connected to
the network. Windows and Microvet are installed on each PC on the network. The data is
kept in a shared directory on the file server. Printer Please
note that when you have Windows XP/NT/2000 as an operating system, you will not be able to
print statements and invoices on a dot matrix printer. Operating system Backup device |

Every space on a window where you can enter
data is called a field. When you access that window, the cursor will always be
at the beginning of the first field. The mouse gives you the freedom to move directly to
any field on screen.
- the TAB key, We recommend that you use the TAB key
or mouse to move between fields. |
A scroll search is used to look up
an existing item from a list, e.g. to look up SMITH J from your client list. You will use
a scroll search list to select a client for whom you want to add a transaction. You will
also get a scroll search list when you want to edit a stock or service item. The items are
listed in alphabetical order. You can
move up and down, line by line in the search by means of the UP and DOWN arrows on your
keyboard. To move up or down a page at a time, click on the up and down triangles, at the
bottom of the screen. If you want to move to the bottom or top of the list click on the up
or down pointing triangles with horizontal lines below them. The item,
currently active, is surrounded by a rectangle in the center of the screen. To select this
item, press ENTER while the item is in the rectangle, or click on the item with the mouse
or click on OK at the bottom of the screen. Click on CANCEL to quit the scroll search. It is not
practical to scroll through thousands of items on a list (one at a time or page by page).
To find the required item from a large list of items, type in the first few letters of the
item's description and press ENTER. If, e.g., you want to find SMITH from the list of
surnames, type in SMI or SMIT or SMITH, press ENTER and the search will jump to the first
item starting with the letters you have entered. If the correct item is in the rectangle,
press ENTER again, or click on the item with the mouse or click on OK at the bottom of the
screen. You can also change the indices of the scroll search list by clicking on the two opposite facing triangles at the bottom of the screen. If you want to look up a client by his/her account number you can change the index so that the account numbers are on the left hand side of the screen. |
Power failures or power surges can corrupt your data while you are
working in Microvet, or when the computer freezes. The file maintenance procedure is a
sub-program of Microvet that will look for the corrupt records and delete them. Exit from Microvet on
