How to send clinical history to a text file

Microvet has the capability to send data to the screen, to the printer and to a text file. The local set-up in Microvet is the place to set the destination. This applies to statements, reports, history, labels and vaccine reminders.

  • If you want the data to be displayed on the screen, use SCREEN

  • If you want the data to be printed, use LPT1

  • If you want a text file, use a text file name e.g. HISTORY.TXT

The following rules apply to the name of a text file:

  • The maximum length of the file name is 8 characters

  • The name must be followed by a dot

  • There must be an extention after the dot consisting of 1 - 3 characters

  • Spaces are not allowed

  • Do not use slashes

Here is an example:

I want to write a document in MS Word and export a particular patient's clinical record to Word.

1. Go to the local setup of Microvet. Change the destination of history from SCREEN to HISTORY.TXT.

2.   Go to VIEW CLINICAL HISTORY. Select the client and the patient. The record will now be sent to the text file.

3. Go back to the local setup and change the destination of history back to SCREEN.

4. Start your word processor e.g. MS Word and create a new document. Type the report to the point where you want to insert the clinical record.

5. Insert the text file as follows:

Click on INSERT

Click on FILE  (A tree diagram will be displayed)

Look in MFW5

Change the file type to ALL FILES

Double click on the file name that you typed in 1 e.g. HISTORY.TXT
