What is a MSR?
A Magnetic
Strip Reader (MSR) is a device that can read the electronic code from a magnetic strip
card.
Why is it called a
loyalty card?
Loyalty cards have a
positive effect on the psyche of customers:
They feel they are
members that belong to the practice.
They feel they get
good value for their money because they get something back.
It builds a long term
relationship with the clients.
Clients become less
price sensitive and are less likely to shop around for better prices.
Tertiary and
secondary shoppers tend to become primary shoppers.
Wont I loose
money?
- The discount that that
clients get with pet miles is minimal. Most loyalty card systems give a benefit 1 % or
less.
One can expect a 50
250 % direct return on initial investment.
Clients cant
use the points directly. They have to come back for another visit and buy something again
to claim the pet miles.
Clients with loyalty
cards spend much more because they get something back.
The loyalty card
prevents the customer to go to other practices or vet shops.
The pet miles are
awarded on payments made and not on invoice totals.
Clients carry the
cards around in their purses and get constantly reminded of the practice. It is a very
good form of ongoing advertising.
Many practices easily
give discounts of 10% or more. Rather switch over to VetCard where the discount rate is
only 1% and save thousands in the process.
The VetCard system is
selective. Only give loyalty cards to your good clients and not to the bad debtors.
You can cover the
costs by charging clients a basic fee for the VetCard.
Loyalty cards attract
new clients.
What is on the card?
Each practice
has a unique design. The VetCard can look similar to the business card. Use the VetCard
for branding. Put the name of the practice, the vet, logo and telephone numbers on the
card. Send us your logo, artwork and text that you want on the card and we will do the
layout. The card is double sided. We can print the consulting hours on the back of the
card.
Sponsor
You
can get a sponsor for your VetCard scheme. We can print the logo of a product, company or
pet food on the card. Make a deal with the company of your choice.
What are the benefits
of the magnetic strip?
Each card has a
unique code that links the card to a specific client. When you swipe the VetCard through
the MSR, the client is found and a transaction is started.
- Time saving
With the
VetCard you dont have to find the client to do a transaction. Just swipe the card and add the items.
- Accuracy
Each time it
will find the correct client and you cant make a mistake. Pet miles cant be
awarded to the wrong client.
- Security
There is a
secret code linked to your practice. VetCards from your practice wont work on any
other system, even if they have Microvet.
Who gets pet miles?
Only clients
with VetCards can earn pet miles. Each VetCard has a unique number. This number has to
entered (or swiped) on the client information. Once the number is entered the client
starts to earn pet miles.
What is the VetCard
benefit rate?
Each practice
can have its own VetCard policy. The VetCard benefit rate is a percentage. The figure is
entered in defaults. Pet miles are calculated using the VetCard benefit rate as a
percentage of each payment.
When do VetCard clients
get points?
Every time a
VetCard holder makes a payment, the points are calculated and added to his total number of
pet miles.
How do I know how many
pet miles a client has?
The total
number of pet miles is displayed on the financial page of the client information. It is
also displayed when a balance inquiry is done or when discount is given.
How does a client use
the pet miles?
Each practice
can have its own loyalty scheme.
- Discount
The pet miles
can be claimed as discount on the next purchase.
- Service
Pet miles can
also be used for free services e.g. 50 pet miles for a grooming, 200 pet miles for a
vaccination and 800 pet miles for a spay.
- Vouchers
Pet Miles can
be awarded in the form of vouchers that VetCard holders can use to claim services or
products.
VetCard scheme
Most loyalty
card schemes are not for free and have an initial start up fee. The loyalty card is often
part of a package deal. This is a good place to become creative. Add some free services to
add value to the package. Here are a few ideas:

Added value
Some
of the loyalty cards like the Woolwoths Difference Card are just based on added value.
This comes in the form of welcoming vouchers, promotional coupons, competitions, news
letters and invitations to launches and events
Vet shop
VetCards are
very useful in vet shops. One of the problems of vet shops is the mystery shoppers.
Customers that just walk in, buy something and are gone. The VetCard scheme gives you the
opportunity to capture the names and contact details of shoppers. This enables you to
build up a customer database that can be used for after sales marketing.
